New Orleans is very well known for its French Creole architecture and its multilingual heritage fused with its cross of cultures. New Orleans is also very famous for it is the birthplace of Jazz and its annual Mardi Gras celebration and festival.
Located in the south eastern part of Louisiana, the city straddles the Mississippi River with the Central Business District located north and west of the river. The area historically referred to as the American Quarter or American Sector is divided by Canal Street which splits the city into the traditional downtown or uptown areas. The other major districts within New Orleans include: Lakefront, Algiers, Bayou St John, Getilly, Mid-City, Lakeview and New Orleans East.
